Maintenance and Engineering Manager, Open Pit
A major Coal producer has an expatriate vacancy in the mining sector in Barranquilla, Colombia, South America. The Company is a 7mtpa producer of high quality thermal coal operating approximately 130 units of equipment.
THE POSITION
Reporting to the GM Manager, will be responsible to manage the company maintenance activities, to accomplish established company objectives. Production is supported by new workshop, office and maintenance facilities including a new coal handling plant.
THE EXECUTIVE
• Age: Ideally the candidate would be in the range of 37 – 55 years of age.
• Education: College graduate, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education.
• Experience: The candidate should have solid experience in OPEN PIT MINING operations both fixed and mobile plant, including not less than 5 years, preferably 10 years, in senior maintenance positions. He should be familiar with the reporting requirements, operating procedures, human relations and administrative standards of an international organization.
• Languages: Fluent in English and preferably Spanish, but not essential.
• Location: Barranquilla, based at site from Monday to Friday

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Responsible for all aspects of management of the maintenance activities of the operation, including safety and environmental requirements, and all other actions required to deliver the agreed business plan.
• Maintain a maintenance management structure for safe operations in a way that facilitates the development and implementation of the mining operations Safety & Health Management System.
• Manage a maintenance structure in a way that clearly identifies the roles, responsibilities and competencies required by senior personnel within the department.
• Managea safety and health management system, in line with the organizations safety and health management system, within the maintenance department that incorporates risk management elements and practices.
• Ensure that the resources required to satisfy the Policy Objectives are made available.
• Ensure that personnel with key duties and responsibilities are suitably developed and undergo appropriate training and assessment.
• Undertake a pro-active role in the leadership and management of the maintenance department.
• Play an active role in managing and controlling expenses of the maintenance department.
• Good understanding of maintenance management systems, including experience in system design and implementation.
• Development of the annual maintenance budget, inclusive of life cycle costing, cost buildup and equipment cost segmentation.
• Ensure that MARC contracts are managed in accordance with agreements with equipment suppliers, and ensure that agreed key performance indicators for MARC contracts are met.
• Develop and maintain good relationship with equipment and spares suppliers.
• Continuously monitor spare parts and component stock levels and adjust according to equipments age and usage.
• Interface with the purchasing and project departments and make recommendations regarding equipment specification, spare parts and spare parts coverage.
• Interface with mine managers and other senior production personnel regarding equipment utilization, application, preventative maintenance shutdowns and major breakdowns.
• Ongoing review and improvement of maintenance reporting systems.
• Participate in development of annual production, operational and cost budgets.
• Maintain effective interfaces with other areas in the company.
COMPENSATION
The level of compensation that will finally be agreed upon, will depend on the characteristics and experience of the chosen executive, and will be determined through direct negotiation between the candidate and the company. Remuneration will recognize the fact that this position will be an expatriate position.
